Maintenance Start Time: 9:00 pm EDT 05/24/15

Estimated duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Status: Pending

We are getting in touch with you to let you know about some planned server maintenance that will take place on Sunday, May 24th. We'll be moving our server bizcloud11.asoshared.com to a new, more customized, cage that will provide us with better network and power management options.

The maintenance will start at 9PM EDT.

During the server move, we shut the server down, unrack it from it's current location, rack in the new cage and start it back up again. The whole process will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes. The server will be unavailable during the move for that time period.

Dallas Cloud and Hybrid Security Maintenance: Venom CVE-2015-3456 Update - Sprint 2

  •   Posted: 4:51 pm EDT 05/14/15

  •   Updated: 2:49 am EDT 05/15/15

Maintenance Start Time: 10:00 pm EDT 05/14/15

Estimated duration:

Status: Resolved

A security flaw has been discovered in the QEMU Floppy Disk Controller
emulation which can potentially allow virtual machines to execute malicious
code against the host operating system (hypervisor), which in a worst
case scenario can result in privilege escalation to the host node and
impact the security of all virtual machines. An update has already
been issued by RedHat and applied across our platform however the
recommended remediation is to follow through on this with reboots of
all affected virtual machines.

Further reading is available at:
https://securityblog.redhat.com/2015/05/13/venom-dont-get-bitten/

We will be conducting graceful reboots on our Dallas Cloud and Hybrid
infrastructure on the evening of May 14th starting at 10:00PM ET. There
is an expected service interruption of up to 15 minutes per-instance during
which we will be conducting the scheduled instance cold boots and
verification that the vulnerability is properly patched

It is our intention to conduct this maintenance with as little downtime
as possible however this is an industry response to a trending security
issue which requires immediate action on our part for the security of
all our customers. We thank you for your understanding and apologize
for any inconvenience this maintenance will cause.

This is a second part of the yesterday's maintenance. As we were not able
to reboot all the VPSes on time, we have left a part of them to be rebooted
today.

UPDATE:
We wanted to update you as to the status of this maintenance. As of
02:40 EDT, the maintenance is complete. If you do experience any
extended downtime or issues, please do not hesitate to contact our
Tech Support Ninjas for assistance.
